Sharing the final piece of fall decor that I made for this year – a DIY Fall Garland with the cutest fluffy pumpkins, acorns, and felt leaves. It has all the colors and textures for cozy season. Seasonal garlands are one of my favorite things to make in the fall and through the holidays. Each one is unique and I love coming up with new ideas each year.
Here’s what you need to make this year’s fall garland:
- Fluffy Pumpkins (Hobby Lobby)
- Acorns Stems (Hobby Lobby)
- Felt in the colors of your choice (Hobby Lobby)
- Cotton Twine
- Upholstery Needles
- Hot Glue Gun + Hot Glue
Prep the Pumpkins + Acorns
I saw bundles of these fluffy pumpkins at Hobby Lobby when they first pulled out their fall stuff, but I didn’t grab them at the time. When I went back, they were sold out but had stems with the fluffy pumpkins on them. So I ended up grabbing those and pulled the pumpkins off the stems. The wire was just lightly glued into the bottom and they popped of really easily.
The acorns also came on a set of stems. They’re made of foam and then wrapped in fabric. I didn’t think I’d be able to get the needle through the foam (and it didn’t seem worth the fight). So rather than pull them off the stem completely, I cut the stem and left about a 1/2″ piece of wire. Then I folded the wire into a circle that I could thread the thread through.
Make the Leaves
To make the leaves, I cut a leaf shape out of the felt. I used the first leaf as my template to cut the rest so they were all the same size. Then I added hot glue on the tip of one side and folded it in half to give the leaves some shape. It would also be so cute to make different types of leaves! I kept these ones very simple, but I might do a whole leafy garland next time with all different felt leaves – maple, oak, ash, etc.
String the Garland
Once I had all the pieces ready to go, I played with a few different patterns until I liked the mix of colors. Not much of an exact science here – get creative with it!
Then I used an upholstery needle to thread the thread through each piece. The cotton twine was a little too thick to thread through my needles, so I separated out about a third of the strands and used that.
Since the acorns have a loop on top, I tied a single loop in the top of each one to hold them in place. The pumpkins and leaves stay in place on their own. I adjusted them to space them evenly once I hung it up. But, once in place they don’t slide around at all.

For the pumpkins, I threaded the string through the top, slightly offset toward one side of the stem so they lean a little forward when the garland is hanging. That way you can see the stem and cute fluffiness on the top.
And there you have it!
It’s so cute on the mantel and in the kitchen window. I ended up leaving it in the kitchen window with the other little acorn garland from last year.
The fluffy pumpkins just get me every time – too cute.
