Last year was the first time we decorated a full Halloween porch, and it’s quickly become a non-negotiable tradition. The kids started asking what the plan was for this year’s porch back in August — to say they were excited is an understatement.

This year’s theme was fun and welcoming with just the right amount of spooky.
Fall porches will always have my heart — the colors, the mums, the pumpkins, the vibes. They look like a warm hug! So, even though it’s technically a Halloween porch, I always start with a cozy fall base and then layer in the Halloween touches for that perfect balance.
Mixing Fall & Halloween Vibes
The steps were begging for an arch this year.
Did I stop on the side of the road and pry dead branches out of a tree like a crazy person? Perhaps.
But anyone who’s seen the trending fall and Halloween porches lately had to know what I was doing… right? Right. (Let’s just go with that.)

I couldn’t pass those branches up — they were meant to be the star of the porch this year. I cut them to fit, layered them against the column, and secured them with zip ties. To bring in some color, I added a few strands of plum leaf garland for texture and warmth.
Magical Details After Dark ✨
I finished it off with a few bats wrapped in twinkle lights. They bring just the right mix of spooky charm and cozy glow after dark. [grab the woven bats HERE]

To attach the lights, I tucked the string into the woven parts of each bat, and they’ve stayed perfectly in place. (You could also use a dab of hot glue if needed.) I secured the battery pack to the back with zip ties — simple and out of sight.

Last but not least, I filled in any gaps in the arch with extra sticks and twigs until it felt full and balanced.
Under the covered part of the porch, we hung a few witch hats and flickering candles — one of the kids’ favorite parts! I used Command hooks on the ceiling and fishing line so they look like they’re floating.

And how about the little brooms by the front door? They’re just too fun. I bought three cinnamon brooms and added taller sticks to two of them to make a few different heights. I might add a few twinkle lights as well so they stand out even more at night.
If you can’t find cinnamon brooms, you could also grab a pack of these birch branches and tie them to a long stick to make a few brooms.
Cozy Fall Touches
I’ve had these faux cedar trees for a couple of years now, and I’m still impressed with how well they’ve held up! Even with the Montana wind, they still look brand new.
To finish everything off, I added my go-to fall staples:
- Real pumpkins (Walmart usually has the best prices)
- Layered doormats
- A mix of lanterns and mums
When the porch lights up at night, it’s exactly the look I was hoping for — a cozy glow with a hint of Halloween spooky. I’ve never been big on scary decor, so we stick to the fun side of Halloween, and this year’s porch fits that perfectly.

All ready for the season! 🎃🕯️
