Hang out with me as I put up this fall decor around the house in my latest YouTube video: Decorate with Me for Fall!
Do you decorate for fall? Or lean more towards Halloween? In the past I did mostly fall decor. But the kids have been so into Halloween this year, so we added a bit of spooky fun in the entryway this time! I don’t usually get too crazy for seasonal decor – Christmas as the exception of course. Now, my aunt on the other hand … she’s a legend for Halloween decor. She used to throw a big Halloween party for all the kids of the family and friends when we were young, and the ENTIRE house was styled for Halloween. It’s one of my favorite childhood memories. As the kids get older I could definitely see us leaning more into it since it was so fun back then! But for now, my approach is to keep it simple and cozy up the house with warmer colors, cozy textures, and seasonal art – all the elements to bring some autumn inside.
Entryway
We had moved a bench over here in the entryway during the kitchen renovation and when we were redoing the flooring. The bench used to be by the back door, which is where we end up going in and out of the house the most, taking shoes off and on, etc. But there was quite a bit of musical furniture going on during the renovation and we ended up with the coffee hutch by the back door for now. So we brought the bench over here to the front entryway for a spot to do shoes and have had it that way the past few months. However – both of us definitely prefer the console table. Rather than the whole bench, I think we’re going to add a small chair by the door, which will be just fine for shoes. So the console table is back! Still on the lookout for a chair … all in good time.
The console table is one of my favorite spots to decorate for the seasons. Just simple changes – the greenery, art, and colors. It sets the vibe right when you walk in. For fall, I like to add some fall stems (faux or cut from the yard), warm colors, and soft textures.
Bats \\ Mirror \\ Brown Vase \\ Eucalyptus Stems \\ Maple Stems \\ Marble Bowl \\ Fall Art \\ Ribbed Lamp \\ Coat Tree \\ Console Table \\ Similar Baskets
How cute is this adorable little ribbed lamp with a pleated shade?! It’s one of my favorite finds this fall.
I grabbed a fall print and frame on Amazon and painted a few ghosts and bats into it. The viral ghost paintings all over Instagram and TikTok are so cool, and I wanted to give it a try. Painting is not my forte exactly, but I kept it really simple and it turned out not too bad! To finish things off, I added a few flying bats over the mirror.
Living Room
The living room is where we spend the most time as a family, so I always try to make it extra cozy for fall. I swapped out some of the blankets for more rich, warm tones – think deep rust, navy, plaid etc. I also like to add a few extra blankets this time of year, perfect to grab on those cool mornings and evenings. Layering different textures like knits and velvet really helps bring that cozy fall vibe into the room.
Mushroom Candlesticks \\ Flameless Taper Candles \\ Frame TV \\ Fall TV Art \\ Berries + Acorns Garland \\ Vining Garland from Hobby Lobby \\ Velvet Pumpkins
The fireplace is front and center in the living room. I swapped out the art on the TV for a fall piece and added a vining garland, woven with an acorns and berries garland in warm reds, oranges, and browns. Then I added a few of my DIY velvet pumpkins. I’ve been really loving the velvet this year! It brings the perfect touch of softness to the mantel. I tried to kind of weave the garland and berries up around the pumpkins so it looks like they’re just growing up out of the vines. The mushroom candlesticks on the end were perfect to finish of the “wild, whimsical forest” vibes I was going for. They’re my new favorite candlesticks! They’re real metal with a bit of a hammered finish and just absolutely beautiful in person! I think they’ll be stunning through the holidays as well.
Kitchen
In the kitchen, I added a few touches for fall but kept it very functional. It’s a very high traffic area of course, so any seasonal decor very much has to be function over form.
The kitchen is at such a weird in-between stage right now since we had to wait on the renovation until the twins arrive. I wasn’t planning to decorate at all. But then I thought – why wait? We might as well enjoy it as-is. We never know what tomorrow might bring. The shelves aren’t the right size. The backsplash is clashing hard with the new black countertops. The old blue paint is peaking through the walls in a few places. There’s no back panel on the island and we can see the subfloor. But, by gosh – those pumpkin cups and garland over the window sure are festive and cute. And they bring a smile to our faces. It’s perfect. A little bit of cozy in the chaos.
Countertop Lamp \\ End Grain Cutting Board \\ Marble Scalloped Tray \\ Pumpkin Punch Bowl \\ Pumpkin Cups \\ Ribbed Green Cups
I love the mix of warm wood tones, green, and natural textures on the open shelves. If you squint really hard, that’s the final color palette I picture for this kitchen once the renovation is complete. I can aaalmost see it past the yellow and blue 😉 (check out the design board here).
Here’s to fall! And here’s to living in the moment – however unfinished and unpolished it might be.
