The kitchen is really starting to come together – we can almost see the finish line! At least for the main part of the kitchen. With the twins on the way, we decided we’ll worry about the pantry cabinets and new entryway from the garage once they’re here. It’s always a few weeks of newborn haze and finding the new “normal” before we jump back in, of course. So our goal now is just to finish this main part of the kitchen before they arrive. Then we can tackle the pantry cabinets and entryway/mudroom as their own projects once we’re ready.
As we’re nearing the finish line in the kitchen, I’ve been picking out the last few finishing touches, including pendant lights to go over the island and a flush mount light to replace the can light over the sink. There are so many beautiful options out there, so I thought I’d throw together a roundup of some of my favorites! I marked the ones we chose.

I always tease Joseph that I must have incredible taste because all the things I would choose are always way too expensive 😂 That’s how it works right?! But I tried to feature a good selection for both the pendant lights and flush mount lights. The costs vary quite a bit. There are some good budget-friendly options, as well as some that would be more of a splurge purchase. I always try to keep a good balance in our renovations of splurge vs save items. The kitchen splurge was definitely the countertops. It made the most sense to pick a very permanent piece as the “splurge” decision. We can easily change out lights later if we want to update them at some point.
Which brings us to … a kitchen renovation update!
Kitchen Renovation Update
Where are we at so far?
We’ve tackled demo, new flooring, fresh paint, finishing + assembling + installing the RTA cabinets, countertops, new lighting, and extending the cabinets to the ceiling.
Here’s a look back at some side-by-sides before and during:
I can’t believe how different it looks already. Still on the list – finish painting the new crown on the tops of the cabinets, trim out the island and close up the back, backsplash, a set of shelves, and the light over the kitchen sink. But it all feels very manageable after how far we’ve come!
We changed out minds over above the oven and decided to remove the new cabinet we had initially hung there to do a range hood instead. That’s what the empty space is for in the very top photo. So we’ll get that up soon!
Here was my initial design board:
We’ve stayed pretty true to it so far! It always amazes me how much a design board actually looks like the finished room once it’s done. They’re truly so helpful for planning renovations and room makeovers.
We’ll see if we can wrap it up in the next few weeks! I can’t wait to share a final reveal.
