Brass Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Ideas and What We Chose

Antique brass kitchen cabinet hardware for every budget! These are a few of my favorite options and what we chose for the kitchen.

Brass Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Ideas

Affordable hardware was one of the most challenging items to find for the kitchen renovation. When you have that many cabinets and drawers, the cost can add up quickly! I searched high and low to find an option that looks like antique brass but wouldn’t break the bank. We didn’t end up going with real brass due to the cost. But I’m happy with the finish we ended up with – it’s called honey bronze from Top Knobs. It’s a soft brass, and I love how it ties in the faucet and compliments the colors on the cabinets and countertops.

I know it’s a little hard to see past the yellow backsplash. But if you tilt your head and squint, you can almost see what it’ll look like when it’s all done!

Top Picks for Brass Kitchen Cabinet Hardware

I’ve rounded up my top picks for brass-look-a-like and brass cabinet hardware from a few of my favorite places, including what we chose. They vary in price quite a bit, but are all beautiful options depending on your budget!

We went with Top Knobs (four, five, and six above). They’re available on both Wayfair and Amazon. Someday I’d LOVE to be able to do unlacquered brass. But the options from Top Knobs were a great budget-friendly choice and are beautiful!

Cabinet Hardware Size

We went with a mix of knobs and handles. I just love how classic the knobs look on the cabinets. There’s quite a variety of drawer sizes, so we went with a mix of 4″, 6″, and 8″ handles. We did 4″ handles on narrower drawers, 6″ on wider drawers, and 8″ on what will eventually be the garbage pull out. I kept the sizes consistent for the same sized cabinets. But I don’t have an exact formula for what width I switched to 6″ handles versus 4″. In all honesty, I just tested the different sizes on each cabinet and followed my heart 😂.

Though I would recommend changing the size of hardware relative to the weight of the cabinet. Example: if you have a slide-out pantry or broom cabinet, large handles will be far more functional than small handles since those are usually pretty heavy. The size of the cabinet is less important. I’ve seen kitchens with large handles on tall cabinets, as well as kitchens with knobs on tall cabinets. Both look wonderful! There are also a fair number of kitchens that use knobs on all the drawers. That comes down to personal preference.

Easiest Way to Attach Cabinet Hardware

We used the Kreg Cabinet Hardware Jig Pro for the first time on this project [available on Amazon HERE or Lowes HERE]. And I can confidently say it’s worth every penny, particularly if you’re putting new hardware in an entire kitchen. It was so quick and simple. Just set it to the correct dimension, do every cabinet in that size, set it for the next, do all those cabinets, etc. We also found that it worked wonders for the knobs. All you have to do is set it for all your right-hand knobs, drill all those. Then set it for your left-hand knobs and drill all those. It was so much quicker than measuring, marking, and drilling each one individually.

Because these drawers are shaker front, we used a small shim behind the jig so that it sat flush with the drawer face. Otherwise, there’d be a little gap behind it, and I was worried about the bit wandering. But it works as-is on any flat panel surfaces.

Mixing Finishes

The finish of your hardware should flow with the other finishes in your kitchen, such as faucets, lighting, and appliances. But I think its perfectly doable to mix and match finishes and still have them flow. Eventually, our plan is to switch all appliances for stainless steel. So the appliances will be stainless, cabinet hardware and faucet are brass, pendants over the island are brass, while the dining room light (also basically in the kitchen) is black. Personally, I like the collected look! The key to making it work is to repeat similar themes. The black dining room light plays off the black countertops. The brass hardware ties in the brass faucet. The stainless appliances will be in the same sheen as the brass hardware (brushed). I’m still very much learning … but, somehow, it seems to be working 😂.

The most foolproof method for mixing and matching is to get samples ahead of time. Once you get them all next to each other, it’s pretty clear if they work together or clash. The white oven and fridge that we currently have… yeah. Not working. We’ll get to it. All in good time. All in good time.
