Our youngest was ready for a big boy bed and made a special request for a dinosaur bed. The way he was talking about it, I was a bit worried at first that he would be disappointed that the actual bed itself wasn’t the shape of a dinosaur 😂 But, after a few discussions, we got it worked out! He was so excited to sleep in his new dinosaur room and has been doing wonderful with the transition to the big boy bed. I think the sweetest thing ever was the other day when he took grandma back to show her the new room. They were looking around and she asked if it was his very own dinosaur room. With the sweetest little 2 1/2 year old voice, he said “yeah, my mom made it.”
Be still my heart. It was the sweetest thing. He was so proud to show her!
Kids’ rooms are some of my favorite spaces to create. I love the opportunity to put together a personal space for them with all their favorite things. It’s so cool to work their personality into the room. You can have so much fun with it! Plus, their sweet reactions are just the best thing ever.
As a reminder, here’s the design plan we started with:
I pulled the twin bed I built a few years ago for our oldest out of storage and found some adorable dinosaur bedding from Target. Check out the DIY Twin Bed if you’re looking for a quick budget-friendly kids bed! I built it low to the ground for little ones who are transitioning to a real bed.
With so many dinosaur fans in the house, we already had a few stuffed dinosaurs and blankets on-hand. So I mostly just filled in the blanks!
Dinosaur Little Boys Room
Dinosaur Sheets \\ Navy Comforter \\ Reversible Dinosaur Quilt \\ Dinosaur Hooded Blanket \\ Dinosaur Prints Set of 3 \\ T-Rex Lamp \\ Loloi x Chris Loves Julia Ivory Natural Rug \\ Twin Bed \\ Dinosaur Footprints Stickers
I found that little bedside table at Goodwill for $12. Yep. Twelve big ones! I couldn’t believe it. I gave it a quick refresh and it’s perfect in this little spot [DIY Nightstand Makeover].
The footprints are vinyl stickers. They were so easy to install – simply peel and stick! And they come off very easily, with no damage.
I found the dinosaur prints on Etsy. They come as a digital download, and I had them printed at the Walmart photo center. I had order matte prints … which I don’t think these are. But they’re still cute! Just a little reflective with the window right there.
I kept the dresser in the closet for now. I didn’t get a picture of it this time, but you can see the closet from when this room was his nursery. The closet still looks pretty much the same! It’s nice to have all the clothes together in one spot and saves space out in the room!
Every morning when he wakes up, the very first thing he does is turn on this little t-rex lamp. He ADORES it. It might be one of my favorite Amazon finds ever. I think my sister even ordered one for her office 😂 They have a few other animals as well! [HERE]
Reading Nook
On the other side of the room, I set up a little reading nook and cube storage for toys. And big brother painted a dinosaur just for this spot.
We love reading bedtime stories right here and winding down for the night.
Big Joe Bean Bag Chair \\ World Map Canvas \\ Cube Shelf \\ Wood Frame \\ Similar Bunting Banner \\ Similar Lamp
I made the bunting banner with some cotton twine and felt (tutorial coming asap), but you can find all sorts of cute ones on Amazon or Etsy too.
And there you have it! My favorite part of this whole room is how much he loves it! Priceless.
Thanks for stopping by and, as always, please let me know if you have any questions! I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
