It’s that time of year! The shadows are getting longer (maybe this only happens in the northern states??? regardless…), the days are getting cooler, and the trees are hinting at a change. I don’t know about you, but fall is my favorite season 🙂 Sweatshirts, flannels, bonfires, pumpkins, apple orchards … who wouldn’t love it!
With just a few more days until it’s officially fall, I have the perfect addition to all that décor I’m sure you’re working on – DIY fall signs! I whipped up the graphics using PicMonkey and used some spare wood to make the frames. The frames only take about 10 minutes to make and I’ve included free downloads of the signs at the bottom of the page!
Here’s the quick how-to.
Tools & Supplies:
- Printer
- Canvas (I used this sticky back canvas)
- Spare 1 x 2 Board
- Miter Saw
- Wood Glue
- Stain
- Sandpaper
Step 1.
Print your image and cut to size.
I printed my sign as a 5×7 onto some spare sticky back canvas I found in my random assortment of crap craft supplies. Print to your hearts desire … any size, any material, any paper … whatever works best for your décor. The free downloads are full size, so you can alter them however necessary 🙂
Step 2.
Assemble the frame. I wrote this step for the square 6”x6” frame, but you can customize the dimensions to whatever size you need!
Cut 4 pieces of 1×2 at 6” on the long side with 45̊ perpendicular miters on each end.
Attach the sides of the frame with wood glue, clamp in place, and let the glue dry.
Step 3.
Once the glue dries, finish the frame with the stain of your choice.
I used Minwax ‘Special Walnut’. To distress the frame, I sanded the edges and corners with 120 grit sandpaper.
Step 4.
Center the image at the back of the frame and glue in place.
I also glued two spare pieces of wood on the top and bottom of the image for a more finished look.
There you have it!
Flip the frame over and enjoy your new fall décor!

If you have any questions or comments, leave them below and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. And if you make one of your own fall signs, please share in the comments! I would love to hear from you!

Really cute sign! Missing my scroll saw and other saws... They are all sitting in storage in California until next spring. :) Shared for you on FB and Pinterest. Have a lovely weekend! Happy to have found your site.
